The Ricky Gervais Show

Is anyone checking out the Ricky Gervais show on HBO on Friday nights?  I assume most of us are out on Friday evenings, but is anyone putting it onto the PVR like I am?

If you don’t know, here is the set-up. It’s Gervais, his writing partner Stephen Merchant, and some weird dude named Karl Pilkington. They had a podcast for a few years, which was just basically them shooting the sh*t for an hour or two and recording it. Now HBO broadcasts about 22 minutes worth of that material, and puts it as a cartoon. Like this….

And whatever it is these guys are talking about, we see in cartoon form.

It’s not like its a groundbreaking show (something that the Merchant and Gervais created “The Office” was) and since its just 3 dudes talking for 22 minutes, it’s not like you need to watch every episode like you do with other shows (ala 24 or Lost) to keep up to date. But if you ever found yourself bored, and with 22 minutes to kill, and needed something to watch, check out The Ricky Gervais show.

And the reason is simple….Karl Pilkington.

This Karl guy is one strange little man. So strange, that this show is only called “The Ricky Gervais” show due to Gervais being the most known of the three, but Karl Pilkington is easily the star of the show. The crazy sh*t this guys says, and the scary thing is that he actually believes it. I once heard Gervais refer to Pilkington as a real life Homer Simpson, and I guess that would be the closest comparison. Not as loud as Homer, but certainly as idiotic.

So again, check this show out some time, give it a shot. Let me know what you think of “The Ricky Gervais Show”. (Be ready though for one of the most annoying laughs ever, provided by Gervais himself)
