Press Rewind – The Score

Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel. When you hear those three names you might think of the woman who won a grammy for her solo album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”, the guy who sorta looks like Will.I.Am, and the dude who had a one hit wonder back in the ninties called “Ghetto Superstar” with Mya and Ol’ Dirty Bastard. But some of you might be like me, and when you hear those 3 names you think of The Fugees. And when you think of the Fugees, you think of The Score, one of the great hip hop albums of the 90’s.

I don’t blame you if you are more familiar with Lauryn Hill “the Grammy winner”, Wyclef Jean “the guy with Shakira”, and Pras “The guy who made that song with Mya and ODB”. Fugees only put out 2 albums, and I wouldn’t exactly consider the first one “Blunted on Reality” to be a classic. But when it comes to the groups second and final album “The Score”, well I do consider that one to be a classic. Even if your not that familiar with The Fugees, you have heard music from them before. I am sure you all remember “Killing Me Softly” even if you had mistaken that to be a Lauryn Hill solo track. But that was just the tip of the iceberg of great tracks on this album. “Ready or Not” and “Fu-Gee-La” were two other great singles that the album produced.

And let’s dig a little deeper… “How many Mics”, “The Beast”, “No Woman, No Cry”, “Cowboys”, and one of my favorites “The Score”. This is not a really long album, but with eight great tracks, it certainly is a classic.

So if all you remember about The Fugees is the success that the individual members had after the break-up, it’s time that you get yourself familiar with The Score.
