Current Battles

THE WAR ZONE

It is now time for you to speak up. Time to let the world know which Hip Hop group you think is the greatest ever. Every Monday, for a seven day span, we will open up two first round battles from our 32 Group Tournament Brackets. The combatants will be listed here, along with some videos and details on the groups to help you in making your decision. At that point, it’s up to you to decide who you think is better in each of the battles. Check out the Tournament Break-Down for more details on the voting process.

Once you have decided on which group you are voting for in each battle, head over to The Classic Hip Hop group on Facebook, where we will have a dedicate area set-up for you to lay down your votes, as well as explain WHY you have voted the way that you have voted. DON’T HAVE FACEBOOK? That’s cool. Just put down your votes in the comment section OF THIS VERY PAGE. And we will include your votes at the end of the week.

Battles begin on a Monday, and end the following Monday. At that time we will post the results, and start the next two battles.

THE BIO

De La Soul is an American hip hop group formed in 1987 on Long Island, New York. They are best known for their eclectic sampling, quirky lyrics, and their contributions to the evolution of the jazz rap and alternative hip hop subgenres. The members are Kelvin Mercer (Posdnuos, Mercenary, Plug Wonder Why, Plug One), David Jude Jolicoeur (Trugoy the Dove, Dave, Plug Two) and Vincent Mason (P.A. Pasemaster Mase, Maseo, Plug Three). The three formed the group in high school and caught the attention of producer Paul Huston (Prince Paul) with a demo tape of the song “Plug Tunin'”. Prince Paul was also sometimes referred to as Plug Four. The “Plug” names are alleged to come from the numbers that each bandmate’s microphone was labeled on the soundboard.
